US Patent awarded for Teflon laminate

Stern & Stern Industries has been awarded US Patent 8,975,197 for a flexible laminate structure comprising a woven Teflon substrate with a Teflon fluorinated film laminated at a temperature lower than the melt point of the substrate but higher than that of the Teflon film.

Cross-sectional views under SEM magnification of the laminate show that the film has flowed into the interstitial voids of the woven substrate as if it had been coated, forming a smooth, non-stick surface.

Its uses include food preparation conveyor belts, flexible joints and ducts, industrial diaphragms, and environmentally resistant coverings. It replaces PTFE-coated fiberglass products.
